Would you buy a Toyota from 2015+?

From 2015 and onward all next-gen Toyota models are now under a new platform called "Toyota New Global Architecture" (TNGA). In addition, these new platforms will have the new Toyota Dynamic Force engine (which I'm not a fan of due to the complexity behind it). Do these new platforms have any benefits at all when compared to their previous platforms?

toyotagrl put my thoughts succinctly.

They are trying to stay competitive in a cut-throat industry that's racing to the bottom, while at the same keeping the government happy. You HAVE to be lean and efficient. If they're not careful, the Chinese will take over everything.

As for the hardware itself, I guess we'll see.

Despite the trends, I think Toyota is still significantly ahead in reliability.

I'd buy in a heartbeat; in fact we did. Have a new Corolla SE, and glad my older Lexus has port injection. Might be complex but having the power benefits of gas direct injection and the cleaning properties of port injection is the big reason I'd go for them. It also makes good business sense to streamline and consolidate their structure.

The new platforms are most likely cheaper to manufacture. How any new engine designs will do over time is currently unknown, however manufacturers today are more concerned with regulatory compliance than reliability or longevity.

Between another 2015+ make and a 2015+ Toyota, most definitely I’d buy a Toyota.

With that said, it seems Toyota’s are getting way more complicated and could potentially cost more to maintain or repair. Hopefully I am incorrect on this assessment. Or if I am correct about costs, I hope 2015+ Toyota’s last just as long, if not longer, than their pre-2015 counterparts.

Currently own a 2015 Tacoma with 115k, ZERO problems! Love it!

But the platform on that truck is an older design. Do you think that the new platform TNGA is going to be successful?

Yes.

I will never buy a Toyota again after our 2016 Highlander limited experienced a water leak and mold problem that the dealer refused to acknowledge.  NEVER

sunroof?
