[Solved] Xterra dying

Scotty;

I have a 2011 Nissan Exterra S model that started dying at low speeds and when engine was warm/hot, ran by the Oreilly's and negative battery terminal was loose, and the battery bad, they said. The dying continued only after I would run the truck about 45 miles, and the engine was warm, and I am in Dallas, Texas, so its warm outside as well. Took to my mechanic who looked at it everything he could, and found the positive battery cable was "loose", but not sure about that but could find nothing else, and he drove it for awhile as well, so I drove it again the next day, and it died again after driving for about 30 minutes on highway. My mechanic said he checked the transmission codes, the vehicle is not throwing any codes, and from what I have read is that it could be the torque converter, though its not having any signs of that issue that I have read about or that it could be a fuel pump issue, and that won't throw any codes either.

I hate taking it to a transmission shop as i fear they will want to replace something whether it needs it or not. I am going to replace the air filters and make sure there is nothing that got into the air intake, as I found some leaves in the cavity where the air cleaner goes and get something I can ad to the gas to help clean fuel injectors. Got any ideas?

I have 198,000 miles on it that have been mostly highway miles.

Thanks in advance for your help..

Figured it out, it was dirty positive battery cable, cleaned it all up and no more issues, while I'm here, saw your video talking about AT 205 sealer, cannot find it in the Dallas TX area, any suggestions?

Thanks for reporting back with the fix!

Doesn’t sound like transmission… what does it do when it stalls?

It dies, then I am able to re-start, but need to keep the RPM's above 1.5-2000 rpm to keep it from dying. Once it cools off its fine again until it get's warm/hot again. I've heard from reading that Nissan is aware of this issue but not saying anything, and that the computer needs a re-fresh, what a person at Oreily's told me as well, that he had a Nissan that did the same thing and that he was told it was a computer deal, I don't know.

the transmission seems like its jumping from 1st to second or 2nd to first, I can feel that, before it will die, which may or may not be a trans issue, I've read it could be a torque converter or a transmission solenoid as well.

I believe I found the problem, the common thread with all I read was corroded wires, so I took apart my positive battery cable and it needed cleaning, which i believe is why it only really happened when it go fairly hot, I will let you know if it worked later this week

Check the coolant temperature sensor as well. If it is faulty, the car shows similar symptoms you experience.
