| Answer to: Noise after replacing brake pads | 16Relevance | 2 years ago | scottykilmer | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Personally, I'd live with the noise. But I also would never resurface rotors. Those idiots don't know how to use lathes anymore. If you really want to get rid of the noise, you'd have to buy new rotors. And the next time you get a brake job. My advice is by akebono pads. They don't make any noise and they usually don't even need the rotors touched. You can use the old ones over | |||||

| ... is slipping? Do engine RPMs increase without a corresponding increase in road speed? Does the engine feel like it is missing or bogging down in the lower gears? There is only one clutch plate. It is changed when it wears out, or is contaminated with oil due to a rear main seal leak, and begins slipping and/or chattering. Normally at that point you would install a complete clutch kit (clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and pilot bearing), resurface or replace the flywheel if needed, and replace the rear main seal if it is leaking. If you do ... | |||||

| Did the shop that did the work resurface or replace the flywheel? The flywheel being out of specification might cause that kind of symptom since slippage between engine and clutch disc normally only takes place starting in first gear. A lot of shops don't want to deal with an older vehicle. At 22 years old most of those cars would have been in the scrapyard for some time now. Could be motor mounts, they would certainly be in bad shape at that age so worth checking out. If you carefully engage first gear from a stop with the hood open you, or preferably a ... | |||||

| ... his 2010 Lexus RX350 with 162k miles and it is very clean inside out. Because he had all the service records, kept it clean and all it needed were brakes and new tires I took the risk. My fault was though besides a visual and walk around I didn't get it inspected by a mechanic. Bought it last Saturday for $8800 bucks. Fully loaded with leather and as you said, COMFORTABLE as heck and everything WORKS! I was about to buy a 2021 ES350 for $38k (smh) for my business doing 25k miles a year. Being in California right now both used and new cars are crazy expen ... | |||||

| Thanks! Should I replace the pivot ball and clutch fork too? And resurface the flywheel? And the gearbox also have trouble with 2nd and 3rd gear due to worn synchros, is it better to put a used box ( if I can find them) or rebuild transmission? | |||||
| Answer to: Headgasket question | 16Relevance | 4 years ago | toyotagrl | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| The heads are the easiest to resurface because once they're out, they're portable. Blocks are generally ok, but they can get out of true. I have a known good straight-edge that I use to check the block and have not run into a time on a passenger car where the block needed to be resurfaced. Racing applications is a different story. | |||||
| Answer to: Headgasket question | 16Relevance | 4 years ago | scottykilmer | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Well, it's almost impossible to resurface the block. You'd have to remove the entire engine and find a machine shop that had a block resurfacing machine which very few people have | |||||

| ... replaced on my own request (I tend to replace them a bit sooner than the wear justifies) and then had the break fluid replaced at around the 80K mark. Around 2020 at 100k miles I gradually started noticing that when I start applying my brakes to come to a smooth stop I can feel the car slowing down less linearly than before. Kind of like the pads dont have even contact with the rotor.. or the rotor was warped and you can feel this sensation where the brakes kind of "grab" harder and certain points in the wheel rotation or something. Its never gotten worse o ... | |||||
| Akebono Brakes Squealing | 16Relevance | 3 years ago | bigcountrybaloo | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| ... I followed a bedding in procedure of ~60-10mph stops, about 8-10 sets. Seemed good for a while, then the squealing started. I sounds like its coming from the front wheels. It comes and goes, but mostly under light to moderate braking pressure. I tried cleaning all 4 corners with brake clean, and it was good for a while again. Then the squealing started again. Hard braking seems fine, but still under light braking. So I decided to get another set of front pads, clean everything relate all contact points, caliper pins, and pay extra attention to how the squea ... | |||||

| My wife recently went to the dealership for her inspection and to replace front brake pads/resurface front rotors on a 2018 Honda CR-V. After waiting for 2 hours to be completed for everything, she received the bill. On there, they charged $639 for parts and labor for replacing the front brakes/resurfacing the front rotors! $79 was for the parts and they charged for 4 hours of labor totaling $560. My wife mentioned to them that she was not even there for that long so how could they charge her for that long. Their response was that's the standard rate they charge for replacing brakes (4 hours) no matter how long it takes. Is this justifiable? Is it possible to report/complain to the BBB and/or attorney general or would we be wasting our time? The Honda dealership that I use charges $299 for parts and labor for the same service (still too expensive I know). | |||||

| ... days are so poorly made that you can't really correctly resurface them on a lathe because they're thinner than they used to be and made out of cheaper materials. So what happens if you turn them on a legs is even if you do get them flat then they will rewarp quickly. I've seen people turn modern rotors and they will warp and again as little as seven or eight thousand miles. So many people will just replace them | |||||
