Hi Scotty, I have a 2014 Acura RDX 2WD 6 cylinder with about 110K miles that I want to keep forever. The only gripe I have is with the feeling of the brakes over the kast 2 years and Im hoping you may have some insight.
Ive never had any brake issues per se; only had the brake pads replaced on my own request (I tend to replace them a bit sooner than the wear justifies) and then had the break fluid replaced at around the 80K mark. Around 2020 at 100k miles I gradually started noticing that when I start applying my brakes to come to a smooth stop I can feel the car slowing down less linearly than before. Kind of like the pads dont have even contact with the rotor.. or the rotor was warped and you can feel this sensation where the brakes kind of "grab" harder and certain points in the wheel rotation or something. Its never gotten worse or better, but its just there. Passengers dont seem to notice anything; only me.
I took it to the shop around that time when I was having other preventative maintenance done (think it was for a timing belt job) and asked them to check out the brake situation. They came back saying there was plenty of wear left on the pads and they didnt see any issues with pad seating or rotor surface. Thinking those were the only variables that could create this sensation, I just asked them to replace the pads on the front and resurface the rotors. Even then I still felt no change in the brakes and Ive taken it back since then and they say there is nothing wrong.
Any advice on narrowing down what variables could be at play here? Car is just driven ocassionally for errands about 3 to 5K miles a year tops. No accidents, harsh driving, mods, always used dealer OEM parts, etc.
Your insight much appreciated. Sorry you hear you left TX!
Well that's off in the signs of a worn brake master cylinder or brake booster that it bolts onto. I would try a new master cylinder first cuz the boosters are relatively expensive to replace
