I just bought a 2009 Lexus IS250 AWD from a dealership with almost 180,000 miles on it, and I was told $1300 Canadian with a 10% friends and family discount (about USD900) for a full rear brake and e-brake job.
The mechanic is my friend's uncle working at a garage, it's the first time I go to him but he seems very sweet and caring.
The right rear brake definitely make a very loud grinding sound, and looking at it he assumed the rear left one was too worn out, making the rear right one work overtime. Does that price sound reasonable if both rear pads, rotors, callipers and e-brake need to be changed?
Well since the Canadian dollar is worth less, that is the going price if he uses Lexus parts and not cheap Chinese knockoffs
I'm confused. Since you just bought this car, didn't it make this noise when you test drove it? Since you purchased it from a dealer, did the car come with a warranty that would cover defective brakes? It sounds like one or more the brake pads are worn down to bare metal. Maybe you can get the local high school or community college auto mechanics class to replace left & right rear pads & rotors & buy the parts from Rock Auto, you could get it fixed for less than half of $1300. Or do it yourself for even less.
