| Answer to: Want your opinion on purchasing a 2015 Buick Enclave | 21Relevance | 5 years ago | Kerem | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| If it were me, though the deal is tempting, I would keep the Forester. If Scotty answers this question, he would most likely say "better the Devil you do know than the Devil you don't." Though the miles are old, it is still 6 7 years old. If you really like it I guess it could be ok for a while the depreciation certainly has been taking place under your father's ownership. Just don't expect more than 100k miles out of it. Your Forester is AWD and 4 cylinder pretty good system and its engine got replaced and you know the maintenance so that would be the plus to keep it a bit more. It also depends on how much you would get if you sell it. | |||||

| Well if you can get decent money for your pilot you could sell it but if it works okay and you're not going to get much you might as well as deal with the Devil you know versus the Devil you don't. | |||||

| Absolutely check that. intake air leak, bad fuel pressure. Do a wet and dry compression test on cylinder 1. If cylinder 1 has no compression, then the motor needs replacement. | |||||
| Answer to: What oscilliscope should I buy | 21Relevance | 6 years ago | AutoElectrical | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| If you don't want to go broke buying one, I use regular electronics oscilloscopes. I have three of them. One is a color handheld digital, one is an older LG with a 5 inch CRT in it. Dual trace 100 mhz, and the other is a hand held Fluke Scope meter. I use the fluke to ferret out problems with bad alternators. Since alternators are three phase and have a 6 diode rectifier, the ripples on top the power in a car are very slight, but when there is a pulse on the DC and there are two spaces, its trouble in paradise. Two of the phases are out meaning a bad diode or bad alternator. Something a meter or tester won't spot and sometimes there is no warning light till its completely dead. None of them are mechanics oscilloscopes. They are real engineering/electronics scopes that are very good and ferreting out BS in cars or anything else for that matter. I use them for bench work but I have used them to figure out forkery in cars that are Devil possessed and old nissans ( which are owned by idiots like me and are Devil possessed because the engineers have crazy ideas and put pins and needles in stuffed toy cars and trucks LOL) Suffice to say that a good scope will help you find out your problems. Take a good look at ExTech Fluke Agilent AllSun and many others. I was looking on ebay and there are lots of nice ones out there. Depends on what you are looking for in your car. | |||||
| Answer to: Which car should i buy? | 21Relevance | 6 years ago | Jacksonishere | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| You can't really go wrong with Toyota or Honda with very limited exceptions. Your problem is the Devil you know vs the Devil you don't and Scotty's talked about this a lot. Buying a car at all is risky you don't know what kind of problems you jumping into even if the car runs good and seems fine. Your car barely has any miles on it! Why are you trying to get something new when you have something new...? Drive the car you have a while at least until you get your money's worth at 300,000 km. Most Toyotas and Honda that have been well maintained will go 500k km and MORE before need any major repairs. Your a 60k Your car is brand new still. Another thing to consider is your time. Do you really want to spend the time it takes to search for a new car and sell your and all that shit when yours is still brand new practically. | |||||
| Subaru Legacy 2009 2.5 Water in the engine Oil | 21Relevance | 3 years ago | Kevin1527 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| ... fact that the coolant is mixing with the oil, the thing is, is the head gasket damaged or is the water pump damaged? i read that both can cause that mix. My car have 135.000 miles and I don't know if the previous owner replaces the head gaskets, the only thing that i know about it is that the head gaskets that I can see in the engine are Blue (because usually a small part of the head gasket stands out and is visible),what I know is that the original head gaskets are black that's why i believe that the previous owner replaces the head gaskets in some point. ... | |||||
| Answer to: 2014 Ford Edge Limited's Power Windows has stopped working. | 21Relevance | 4 years ago | jack62 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| ... see if you can operate the front passenger window from the switch on the front passenger door. Here's how those windows are wired. Notice where I put a Yellow Circle around the splice in the Blue wire from the Power Windows Circuit Breaker. It splices off to the right in the diagram and provides direct power to the Front Passenger Door. If you can operate the Front Passenger Door window using the switch on the front passenger door then it's almost a sure bet that the Blue wire is broken at the connector between the driver's door and the car body. But if ... | |||||
| Answer to: Establishing Value of Totaled Car | 21Relevance | 5 years ago | Mark-Snodgrass | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Sorry to hear about your totaled car. I’ve learned recently from Scotty that Blue Book is not a good tool for determining value if you are on the buying end, because Blue Book values can be inflated. Nevertheless, many still use Blue Book. Maybe it works to your advantage to use Blue Book value as a starting point if you have not already. Good luck | |||||

| Answer to: 5.7 Hemi V8 puff of blue smoke out of tailpipe on cold start | 20Relevance | 2 years ago | Glen_stet | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| White smoke on startup is condensation, so Blue is most likely oil. When your catalytic converter heats up, it burns the oil, so there's no Blue smoke then. Are you using oil between oil changes? Fortunately, there's a pretty cheap and easy test to see the condition of your rings and pistons - do a compression check dry, then put in an ounce of oil and do the compression test then. If there is substantial difference, you have worn rings. Here's Scotty demonstrating it | |||||
| Engine smoking | 21Relevance | 4 years ago | Kuda | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Greetings Scotty. My vehicle is a Iveco daily 35s11, 2.8 liter, year 2000. I had it overhauled after it was blowing Blue smoke particularly on start up and also the oil pressure dash light was on. They checked the bearings and noticed that some copper was now showing, however the piston rings where still in shape but we put new ones, we also put new stem seals. Overally the engine was still in good shape as the crankshaft was not damaged at all and the engine block was good as well. So after the engine was assembled back together, it is still blowing Blue sm ... | |||||

| ... Q4: Is the car level and are you waiting until the car cold to check the oil? -------- Q5: Are you using Synthetic oil (or) have you recently changed to Synthetic oil? -------- Q6: Do you notice any Blue smoke out the exhaust (especially when under acceleration or going up hill)? -------- Q7: Did you recently purchase the vehicle used? Note: If Yes to Q7, sometimes sellers will put Synthetic oil it high mileage cars (or) cars with blown head gaskets because synthetic oil does not burn "blue" exhaust as synthetic oil can appear to have mostly clear / normal ... | |||||
| Answer to: 2018 CrossTrek - Blue Smoke (Dumbfounded) | 20Relevance | 1 year ago | Chuck Tobias | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| There are only so many ways that oil can get into the combustion chamber. It's possible the car wasn't maintained properly, causing excessive wear. Is there any sludge in the engine? Under what conditions do you see Blue smoke? At startup? At idle? When accelerating? When decelerating? If your oil level isn't dropping after 1300 miles there's not a huge amount of oil burning going on. (Did you check the oil consumption yourself or did you just take the dealer's word for it?) That would just be a bandaid that would not actually fix anything and might n ... | |||||
