| Not Downshifting to first gear while the car is stop | 9Relevance | 4 years ago | Mman | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| 2008 Lexus ISF. Check engine light came on along with the VSC light in the morning and on my way home from work at night the car will not downshift to first gear while using the manual mode. Could this be related to the check engine light being on. If I try to downshift to first gear at a red light the car makes a beeping sound coming from the dashboard. Can I re-set the cars computer by disconnecting the negative pole on the battery? Thank you in advance!! | |||||

| Too old. Old luxury cars have lots to go wrong with them and are usually a poor choice for a first car. Lacks modern OBD2 diagnostics for dealing with problems. Chances are the odometer has been tampered with. (Facebook marketplace is a rat's nest of scammers.) Something simpler like a Corolla or Civic would be a better choice as a first car even if it had significantly higher mileage. | |||||

| Yes, the title is correct. I will explain below. I do not want to junk this vehicle, or sell it for scrap. I want this car restored to be road-worthy, at the very least, for whoever decides to take it on. Obviously, my first choice is Scotty. Whether he fixes it and keeps it for himself or gives it away...anything would make me happy if this car was driven again. Onto the details: My grandmother passed away in 2018. This was her vehicle, which she (clearly) used sparingly for the 22 years she and my grandfather owned it. This is a single owner vehic ... | |||||

| I was looking at purchasing a 2018-2020 Honda Accord touring as my first car. I’m 18 and i think it’ll be a good first car with all the advanced technology it has. Why do people say to get the 2.0L turbo over the 1.5? And do you think this is a good choice ? | |||||

| 2014 Ford Fusion as son's first car? | 11Relevance | 3 years ago | Jkeena | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hey Scotty, It's time for my son to get his first car. I have a 2014 Ford Fusion with 155,000 miles that I was thinking of giving him. The car has never had any actual engine problems. I have had to replace the entire AC system ($1300), I've had to replace the rotors twice and they feel like they need new ones. I've also had to replace the shocks and struts twice, as well. (Also due for replacement) In between all that, it goes through tires quite a bit faster than expected too. There is also a strong jerk in the transmission when you first go int ... | |||||

| I'm assuming we are talking about the second generation Avensis, but most of what is said here is true also of the first gen. As, @g-t said, that engine is probably a Toyota-CD, and as a matter of fact that's a crappy engine. Keep in mind that the fuel system (including pressure regulators and injectors) isn't well built at all, the exhaust gas recirculation valves are known to cause issues, and water pumps on these are probably the worst in the industry. Oh and don't forget the cost of maintaining a Toyota D-4D: 6L of oil every 7500km, A timing job every ... | |||||

| ... in my car and tried to start it, but the car would not even crank. Only accessory lights came on. My battery is two years old so I tried to attach a jumper. I turned the key and no crank. After a few minutes the car started fine, and ran. I even shut the car off again shortly after and cranked it again, it started fine. I decided to put a volt meter on the battery, but I am getting 12.7 volts, which is still good I guess. Also no trouble codes in the car. I am wondering if it was even the battery because when the jumper cables were on it still did not cra ... | |||||

| Acuras can tend to get expensive in repairs, as they age (>150,000 miles). For that reason alone, as your first car, you’re better off with a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla instead. No matter which car you end up buying, be sure to have it inspected thoroughly by a professional mechanic, before you buy it. Also, feel free to type in ‘first car’ into the search box of this website (top right corner). Congratulations & good luck! | |||||

| ... someone with experience like you to suggest some car brands or even models that would be good to try as a beginner, or as a first car, I looked online of course but nothing seem to be helpful, my goals with the car would be to use it in long rides, travelling from country to country, and just enjoy the car while building experience (of course I know the first car it wouldn’t last forever and I might change it after the first 2-3 years or even 5) I am so lost Scotty! | When should I do my first oil change? | 10Relevance | 11 months ago | CurtParker72 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I just purchased a brand new 2024 F150 with a 3.5 ecoboost engine. This is my first brand new vehicle and I want to make it last as long as I can. I was reading through my owners manual and it said the first service wasn’t due until 10,000 miles. I think that’s way too long to run without an oil change. Break in period is the first 1000 miles per the manual. Would it be overkill to perform the first oil change at 1000 miles or should I wait until 3-5 thousand? Also when it comes to oil, Ford suggests motorcraft (go figure lol) I’m tossing the idea around of ... | |||||
