| Answer to: Buying AT-205 Re-Seal and alternatives | 16Relevance | 5 years ago | RTZ | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Scotty, AT 205 Reseal is getting very hard to find and with that is very expensive. Is Blue Devil Oil seal the same, or is there something else that may work as well until AT 205 Reseal gets back in the game? Thanks. | |||||

| I'm using "Blue Devil - Oil Stop Leak" as an alternative to ATP AT-205 Reseal. Based on the MSDS, they have the same ingredient, which is 100% Di(ethylene glycol) ethyl ether (AKA CAS# 111-90-0). Cheers, | |||||

| Thanks Scotty! Would you recommend waiting until my next oil change to use it since I already have Blue Devil in there? Or can I use it now? It looks like I can still get it at Advance Auto Parts! | |||||

| ... assuming I'm getting sparks on all 4. There are no error codes coming up. The only other issue previously was a thermostat replacement and the car was running hot. But with the new thermostat, new coolant, and Blue Devil coolant sealant addition, the car was running at proper temperature. After that work, the car ran fine for a couple days and then this starting issue occurred. I was beginning to wonder about the head gasket, but when I changed the #3 and #4 spark plug I did confirm they had a little gas on them, but no coolant, so hopefully the head g ... | |||||

| Those temporary band-aids are no substitute for a proper repair. Sometimes they work for a while. Many times they do not. If you've been driving it around in that condition for any length of time the damage is done. Coolant in the oil damages bearings and other internal engine parts. At this point you probably need to replace the engine, or more likely just get another car. | |||||

| Yet another UPDATE!!!! So, took it to the shop yesterday. Found out today that the radiator was clogged and the water pump isn't working (of course), so they can't do the coolant flush and run the Blue Devil prior to those things being replaced. I decided that since I'm spending so much on replacements, may as well go ahead with a proper repair. So I bought a brand new head gasket, thermostat, radiator, and water pump. For everything, including replacing the thermostat, head gasket, water pump, radiator, and leaking coolant line on the throttle body, as w ... | |||||

| well here's an update... after 10k miles the Blue Devil stuff stopped working and it was dripping all over the pavement... Dealer wanted my car for 3 weeks so i took it to a transmission shop.... they replaced the cv axle (again) and the axle seal (again) and the transmission case bushing (the TSB) and it stopped leaking. that was back in October.... now it's leaking again. Firestone said all 3 motor mounts (engine mount, torque strut mount, and transmission mount) are no good... could the transmission mount be what's ripping these seals so often? it's be ... | |||||

| ... these people almost always target women, especially young woman. If it's leaking from that area then your gasket is failing. Try the head gasket repair like you said. You have nothing to lose at this point. I have heard some good things about bars and Blue Devil . Just note if it does work it might last a couple of days or over a year. There is no time line on how long Your most likely going to have to remove the thermostat to use that stuff. Most of them call for that . | |||||

| I'm in Canada and I also cannot find AT-205 Reseal, so I am substituting it with Blue Devil Oil Stop Leak, which there seems to be sufficient supply. I easily picked up an 8 oz/237 mL bottle at my local Canadian Tire. Don't take my word for it since I'm no chemist, but the active ingredient seems similar, 100% "Di(ethylene glycol) ethyl ether", where AT-205 just says 100% "Glycol ethers" (according to their Safety Data Sheet). Good thing I don't have a leak, I'm just gonna put it in a spray bottle to spray rubber materials like Scotty does. | |||||

| Hi Scotty hopefully you or some one else can answer this. I watched one of your videos and you said if water getting into oil not to use a head gasket sealer that has sodium silicate in it as it can lock up bearings. The product i bought is Blue Devil head gasket sealer. I called them and they say this is what there product is for but recommended changing the oil before and after treatment. Will i be in more trouble trying this or would the oil changing save any problems with the bearings. this is on a mazda miata i did a compression test from front to rear ... | |||||

| Hello Scotty, I was fortunate enough to come across you on youtube. I have a 2006 Toyota rav4 almost 250,000 miles leaking transmission fluid bad. Diagnostics from few mechanics is front seal leak. Put in some Blue Devil, seem to have gotten better. Then poured the rest of the bottle in a week later, or it was about that time, now it drips hard after starting engine for a few minutes. As I add transmission fluid and I see it dripping down fast under the car... I heard expensive prices for having to get the transmission out to replace the seal... Would I ha ... | |||||

| ... Blue Devil by the experts from the Subaru dealership. They also replaced my thermostat at that time. After then around one and half months, the car was driving great. Suddenly a couple of days ago it started to overheat. Then I checked that the coolant level is very low. After pouring coolant and starting the car I discovered that this is dropping a water-like liquid (most probable is the coolant) from the joint of the two exhausts out. Now my questing is, do you think my head gasket leak is back? Or a new issue is appended with the head gasket issue? ... | |||||

Then tried to go to work the next morning when it started to over heat. I quickly turned the car off and had it towed home. | Answer to: Burning smell when I drive over 70 mph | 16Relevance | 5 years ago | Mental Backfire | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Older cars will typically emit a burning smell when their valve covers start seeping oil out and trickling down onto the hot hot exhaust manifold pipe. A little light degreasing of these areas after repairing the leak will help. A good oil additive stop leak like at 205 reseal or Blue Devil rear main seal stop leak is a good low cost starting point for this. Also, on the tops of the valve covers, sometimes there are wires that run along the top that are encased in black plastic accordian looking wire wrap called "wire loom conduit". Over time it becomes ... | |||||
