| Toyota Sienna or Toyota Previa? Which should I get. | 20Relevance | 4 years ago | carolb | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Been looking for a decent 98'-2003 Toyota sienna. I can't afford a new one and I just like the way the older ones look. Also less complaints on carcomplaints.com I just can't find one where I am though. Wholesale dealers are pretty much the only places I can find older sienna's, but most of them have bad reviews and won't let me have it preinspected. Bad news. So I've been considering a Toyota Previa, which has stellar reviews and very few complaints. BUT. They are mid engine so I'll probably get charged more for service, they are 1990-1997 so I may ... | |||||

| I'm here in the USA and I'm currently operating out of my Toyota corolla, so a sienna would be a huge leap forward. I do mostly small projects for homeowners and property managers and I hope to get my electricians license in a few years. As Scotty has said, our used car market here is pretty inflated and for whatever reason used utility vans seem to hold their value here in Virginia. My 06 Corolla has 200k miles and our '12 sienna (family hauler) has 188k miles. Both have been bulletproof as far as reliability goes. I think a modified sienna will suit my bus ... | |||||

| No, the sienna doesn't have the oil burning or fuel pump issues. Infact, Scotty has repeatedly said that the sienna is the best minivan on the market. I would jump on that van if I were you. The sienna and the Quest are like night and day. | |||||

| 2015 sienna LE FWD 35k mil vs 2017 sienna LE FWD 55k mil for the same price, which one to buy? 2017 got 8 gears, direct fuel injection, more torque and Hp. I read that there was a problem with automatic transmision in 2017 models, so I wonder what would you do Scotty? | |||||
| Answer to: Will this engine fit in my odyssey | 19Relevance | 6 months ago | Chuck Tobias | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| It would likely be simpler and less expensive to swap the nice interior into your running odyssey and go to a discount body shop like Maaco to fix your dents and paint. Either that or install a replacement engine in the "new" odyssey. Realistically though if you want a nicer car the best way to accomplish that is to just to buy one in good condition that is equipped the way you want. You're messing around with vehicles nearly 20 years old that are not worth putting a lot of time, effort, and money into. | |||||

| Given what Scotty has said many times about the odyssey I'd be more concerned about the transmission than the engine. This is confirmed by other sources. | |||||
| Answer to: Q1 Toyota Sienna 2005 Timing Belt Interval | 20Relevance | 5 years ago | AD99 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| This has come up a few times now. The 2005 Toyota sienna actually has a 3.3L V6 engine, not a 3.5L. I have a 2006 sienna with that same engine and my mechanic advised me that those engines have a design such that you have to treat it like an interference engine when changing the timing belt - the 3.3L V6 is interference. (Check out this article for evidence The owners manual recommends changing the timing belt every 90K miles, so just go by that. You said the sienna you’re looking at has 120K miles so I would recommend you budget in and plan to have the t ... | |||||
| Are late model Honda minivans reliable? | 19Relevance | 3 years ago | Carman66gto | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| My wife is a Honda lover. I am not so much. But, I do see the value in the long term reliability. We had 2002 Honda odyssey, after 10 years, it had 230,000 miles. No major issues. We replaced that 2002 with 2007 Honda odyssey. Traded that 2007 in with 200,000 miles on 2016 Honda odyssey which now has over 100,000 miles. No major issues. We wanna keep this one for another 5 years. Has Honda reliability gone down?Your thoughts on will there be a reliable gas powered Honda van in five years?I hate all this electric crap they are forcing down our throats. We routinely make the drive from upstate New York to northern maine, 12 hour drive. No way it could be done as electric. Once you get north of Portland, charging stations get fewer and fewer. No way I’m waiting 4-5 hoursfor a charge to get 100 miles. Not to mention Maine is in the north, they get a lot of cold and snow. Electric car up there? No thanks!!! | |||||

| Posted by @kaizen : The Honda 10 speed was first used in the odyssey and spread to other Honda/Acura models. I recommend looking to see if Honda had any transmission problems with the odyssey and other models. The odyssey 10 speed automatics were one of the most troubled ones out there, with constant issues in the 2018+ model years. None recorded in the Accord until this date. The ZF 9 speed in Acura models from around 2015/2016 have proven troublesome wiht many short term issues, the newer ones (+10 speed) are better in that regards but no one knows how long they will last long-term because they are new. Posted by @thecruise123 : I feel like Honda wasn't aiming for top reliability, but can you go wrong with this transmission? You are right, Honda's priorities have shifted from reliability and conservative design to performance and efficiency. The engine in the new Accord is dissapointing to me as well. I personally am against the school of thought whatever lunatic used to design the 2018+ Accord, but that's just me. I have to admit they are less boring and more fun and "premium" than before, and some people might like that. But I've always known Toyota & Honda to be conservative and use the "kaizen" method to fix kinks and make quality products, and leave the "fun" cars to Mazda, "capable" cars to Subaru, etc... An Accord 2.0T with a manual would be a nice lease though;) | |||||
| Catalytic Converter protection. | 19Relevance | 5 years ago | Just a guy | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hi Scotty, Thanks for your posts on your channel. I drive a 16 year old Honda odyssey, (125K miles so she will probably outlast me) the former mom bomb that was the kiddie transport that I got as the hand me down. So much stuff in the garage (as you can attest to), the odyssey lives on the street. The other morning I went out to go to the hardware store (yes, you can put a 4X8 sheet of plywood in an odyssey), started her up and VAROOOOMMMMMMM, BLUB, BLUB, BLUB.... I knew immediately what happened, got out of the car and started to rant as passer-byers looked on and listened. My neighbor asked if I had won the race, I said get over here to change the tires and fill it with gas! In the wee hours of darkness some creatin cut the catalytic converter out of my car. Timed like a pit stop, It seems like these these cheesy tweekers are as efficient as A NASCAR Pit team in getting the Cat cut, clipped, and outta there. It is a highly aggravating and many times very expensive process to get the new Cat, O2 sensor, and the like installed. Another neighbor had his Toyota truck two Cats stolen as well and it was thousands to get fixed. This is a nation wide problem and you might be doing your channel viewers a service by talking about this and maybe some solutions to help curb (pun intended) the problem. I do hope you enjoy your new adventures in your new neighborhood. Cheers, Just a Guy... Have a great week | |||||
| Answer to: 2005 Honda Odyssey Misfire | 19Relevance | 2 years ago | Justin Shepherd | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Please don't hijack an old post from August, start your own topic. It makes more work for the moderators on this site. A 2005 Honda odyssey has almost nothing in common with a 2021 odyssey. Motor mounts wouldn't cause misfires., the car will just shake all the time. Start with adjusting valves. I don't know whether or not that engine is an interference engine or not, but, if there's no record of it being changed and it is an interference engine, I would change the timing belt. | |||||

| Hey Scotty! My parents recently bought a new Tesla and are looking to get rid of one of our current cars, a 2012 Honda odyssey or a 2019 CRV, but are having a hard time deciding which one to keep. The CRV has the 1.5-liter turbo engine with 45,000 miles on it while the odyssey has 120,000 miles. They are also both EX-L trims. | |||||

| Aloha I have a 07 odyssey base model, 160k miles Runs great. But interior is not the best and the body has a ton of scratches some dents and the paint peeling. Then I just got a 07 odyssey exl leather interior, sunroof. Very nice body, nice paint. Very nice interior. But has a engine with a bad head and possible engine damage. But trans is also great. 200k miles I was so excited to put my engine from my base model into the exl, I called honda, gave them vin numbers and they told me the engines are different. I am so sad. I was so excited to have such a nicer car by just swapping the engines. And now im being told engines are different even tho they are both 2007s. I was thinking I could swap the engines. Have a much nicer car. Also a extra trans on the side. And a entire parts car as well. Im in disbelief and wondering if there's any way to make it work? | |||||
