Good day everyone! I know this question has been asked into the ground and all the way to through to other side of the globe, but I'm just not finding a cohesive answer close enough to my situation;
I recently acquired a 1984 Chrysler Executive (basically a mix of a LeBaron and New Yorker, but a limo), it has 106,989 miles on it, and I have no idea if the transmission fluid has ever been changed; the fluid on the dipstick looks clean, and it appears to have a leak, and if that has been topped off and going on for a long time, that in some way can help keep some of the fluid decent; I want to preserve this car as long as physically possible, and I'm seriously considering just biting the bullet and draining and refilling the fluid and replacing the filter myself. What do you guys think?
Engine: 2.6L Mitsubishi I4
Transmission: I have no idea, but it's FWD, and probably the same that came with the regular LeBarons/Etc that had this motor, it takes Dextron II
Thanks in advance everyone! I'm not putting any more miles on this car until I have a clear idea on how I need to proceed
Wow I didn't know Chrysler used Mitsi engines.
I would have no issue doing the required transmission maintenance. It only has 100k on it.
You can always just save the old fluid in case there's an issue. Read the FAQ topic for details
Yes, In the 1980s Chrysler bought large 4 cylinder (2.6 "Hemi") and 3.0 V6 engines from Mitusbishi. In the 1970s they also imported Mitsubishi cars and sold them as Plymouths and Dodges, as well as the Hillman Avenger which sold here as the Plymouth Cricket.
@chucktobias you would make a great car museum guide {pear}:laugh:
