How you doing I’m thinking of buying  a 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme SL it has 120k miles on it it’s from a private dealer. It’s been garage kept for 25 years the gentleman said. A new radiator was installed last year. Gentleman is selling it for $2500.00. I live in NY. My question is that are these car reliable and do you think it’s a good idea to buy this vehicle. Thank you very much.

It's not clear what you mean by a "private dealer" - if it's being sold by a dealer that is a big red flag. In any event you cannot believe anything a seller tells you about the car, including the low mileage. That needs to be verified, and the car checked out by a good mechanic before purchase. If the car was driven in NY winters for the last 25 years the underside probably looks like swiss cheese.

If it has the GM 3.8 engine that is a great engine but what it's like now depends on how it's been maintained over the years. Transmissions are weak. That's a good price these days for anything that runs but you don't want to get involved with something that is going to need thousands in repairs.

Yes, if you can sell it for scrap for more than $2500.
