Hi I have an issue I just can't seem to figure out. I have a check engine code ( P0340 ) says. "Camshaft position sensor .A. circuit bank 1 or single sensor" . Says replace camshaft position sensor which I did. Located under the distributor cap and rotor. Check engine light remains. Clear the code. Comes back within a day. Also had the distributor replaced and light still on. Same code. Is there maybe another camshaft sensor I'm missing or something else I'm missing that I need to look in to.. really stuck. Trying to fix this issue before I have to possibly take to a shop. But any advice will really help me save a little time.
Turns out it was the distributor. Ended up taking to another shop, they told me I had a 6 cylinder distributor when I have an 8 cylinder vehicle. And the cam retard was at 45 degrees. Really bad why I had so much trouble starting it up all the time.. they replaced it all. All new distributor, cap, rotor and cam sensor for a v8 engine correctly. Note to self. Watch what shop you go to. No more P0340 code. Truck drives smooth again . 🤗 👍 Thanks for your suggestion jack and Joe. Hopefully this helps someone with a bad auto shop experience.
so two spark plugs weren't plugged into anything and you didn't notice?
Sorry for late response. Distributor was for a 6 cylinder but they used the same Distributor cap and rotor. So all plugs were connected.
Unbelievable!

That's a circuit malfunction code saying the PCM isn't receiving a signal from the cam sensor so maybe test the circuit.
Those have 3 wire cam sensors.
(Component Side:)

A) Ground (provided by Pin 8 on the PCM's C1 (blue) connector)
B) Cam sensor signal to Pin 3 on the PCM's C1 (blue) connector)
C) Power (Key On)
So you can test for those with a cheap multimeter. Here's a step-by-step on how to do that:

If you have Power, Ground, and a Signal then it's time to check if that wiring between the Cam sensor's signal and the PCM is OK and not broken or grounding out on something.
You'll test for continuity on that signal wire (B) between the Cam sensor and the PCM's Cam Sensor Signal Pin 3. (all these tests are done by back-pinning the wires at the connectors)

The signal and ground wires are the same color at both the cam sensor and at the PCM so it's pretty easy to tell which ones they are
