Hi Scotty! My son has a 2000 Dodge Dakota with a V8 Magnum engine. The previous owner took good care of it so even with 247K miles on it, it runs like a champ, but when we bought it, the power steering moaned and groaned even though there were no signs of air getting in the system, or any leaks. So we replaced the pump, and after a week, it starts up moaning and groaning at every turn but still turns and steers fine. Thinking the pump we got was defective, we got a new one and after a week of no issues, it's started up its noises again. Once again, no bubbly fluid, no leaking, still turns and steers fine. Should I be worried? Could it be yet another faulty pump or do Dodge V8s just get cranky and noisy in their old age? 😕
It isn't your steering pump, it's your steering box. Check it for looseness and leaks, especially the Pitman arm.
If it's not leaking and you still have powering steering, you could live with it. Power steering pumps get noisy when they have that many miles on them.
So, if it's the steering box and/or pitman arm,how long can I just live with the noise before addressing th is problem? {black}:shutmouth:
