2000 Toyota Celica multiple EVAP codes

I have the P0440, P0441, and P0446 codes on my 2000 Toyota Celica GT. From what I can tell its likely the charcoal canister, but $300 is kind of an expensive guess. I've already tired a new gas cap. Are there any cheaper guesses that may fix the codes so I can pass smog? Thank you for any help.

You can rent a smoke system to isolate any leaks. A visible inspection of the canister will tell you if it’s ok or not. If it doesn’t have any holes and looks ok more than likely its a line. Also take some brake cleaner on a rag and clean your gas tank inlet where the cap goes. Sometimes they build up gunk on the metal lip, keeps the gas cap from sealing well. Also I do know some aftermarket caps are wrong. Autozone sells one for my car that will make me code everyday. Just made wrong, doesn’t seal. Did you compare the new one to your old one?

I did confirm the gas cap is an almost exact match to the original. Is replacing the Purge valve solenoid a potential fix for the codes, or is that unrelated?

Best bet is rent a smoke machine and find the leak. Blindly replacing parts is costly and if not done correctly can cause more leaks

@Thumpy where can you rent a smoke machine? Local auto parts store? (Good info)

Some auto places have em. Or you can get one of those cheap halloween ones off amazon or walmart website tape a small funnel over the output , buy a cheap bike pump with the needle adapter and take the hose off, or cut the hose and tape on adapter for the evap test port. I made one that way for 60 bucks total. It aint like a fancy one but it will get smoke in the system. There are some cheap ones on the net for 69 and up to.
