I’m looking into buying a 2001 Lexus is300 the price is $1,900 the car has 152,000 miles and it needs a battery and a radiator. I want to know is this a good investment and or is this worth the price for me to buy as a daily driver. I don’t have money sitting around to throw into a potential money pit.
I'm always concerned when someone is selling a car with known minor problems. Because, why wouldn't you just fix those and ask more money? It is a sign to me that maintenance wasn't done on time or properly and that they are scrimping on repairs, which you do not want to do in a Lexus.
I would pass based on those feelings but if you really like it and it has a clean title (if rebuilt/salvage, walk away), have a mechanic go over it to make sure there aren't any hidden demons.
I wouldn't recommend it based on what I've stated but I would at least feel better about things if it were checked out by a pro.
Those are really good, reliable cars. The engine in those cars is Toyota’s legendary 2JZ, which is a very strong engine. That sounds like a fair price for an IS with 150K miles. Have a mechanic thoroughly inspect it before you make an offer to ensure it is in good condition and was taken care of - it is 20 years old. A battery and radiator are pretty minor, but you want to make sure there are no serious issues with the car. If everything else checks out good, that sounds like a good car.
