I have a 2001 Nissan Sentra XE that is appearing to have some fuel economy issues. The car for reference is rated for 28 MPG in the city and I'm aware that it's normal to get a few mpg under but my car gets 18 mpg. Yes, that's not completely horrible but it bothers me being that's close to how much my old Cadillac Deville with a massive v8 got. The engine seems to be running fine and not idling rough (however I cant see RPM because the XE doesn't have a tach) and doesn't seem to have any performance issues.
What cold tyre pressures are you running? Is your transmission shifting into the highest gear, when you’re cruising?
It always tries to shift to the highest gear when it can in fact when I'm going over 40 it always stays in 4th
What’s the gas mileage when on the highway doing 60mph, constantly?
Ill get back to you on that and as an update its gone down to 14 mpg and im driving it really light. Could it be
the transmission
Only unless it’s not shifting past 2nd gear. 14mpg is stop & go city traffic territory.
yea but not when its supposed to get way more, I know the epa estimate is only accurate if you drive it one specific way but this isnt normal for a sentra. Ive had issues with it and already put 2k into it i think i should just get rid of it idk
Was it for engine issues?
Clean the MAF sensor and throttle body with spray cleaner.
ill try the throttle body, I don't think its the MAF as it just got replaced and I had the problem before it
