Hey Scotty,

I recently borrowed a friends 4runnef and fell in love with driving it. Theirs was a 96 model and ran like a champ with 222,000 miles on it.

It’s really made me want to shop around for an early model 4Runnef and recently found one online That seems to be in a really great condition.  It’s a 2001 model and has 244,000 miles on it.

Is 7k too high of a purchase price even though the 4Runner’s are built like tanks? Let me know if you think it would be a good buy not

Honestly, it depends upon where you are geographically located. If you aren’t aware, KBB values change upon the location of where you are. That’s why if you compare a vehicle’s price of the same condition and same mileage, California cars are more expensive then let’s say; North Carolinians Car’s. Car Values Change via your location and so do bank loan valuations. So I’d pull up Kbb, and enter your information on there and put the VIN number (request it from the owner) and figure out what’s the “fair” asking price and I would not pay more than the “highest” value of the fair asking price. Toyota’s also are known to have a “Toyota tax” which makes the KBB values look very undermined. So you have to keep in mind, you’re paying for a highly inflated vehicle brand. Why do I know this stuff? Because I have years experience in the car sales industry. 👍 Good Luck

I currently own a 1999 Toyota 4Runner with 160K miles and I bought it for 7K but it had a leaking sunroof that I had swapped out for 200$ and it works like a clock now. I have a channel on YouTube to show you what to look for 👍 check out @carznvp on YouTube and also Scotty has tons of a videos to show you as well, but I just have a third gen 4Runners buyers guide video to showcase all the things to look for when trying to buy one! So either search up Scotty’s overview of it, or feel free to check out mine, either one is fine with me! Just do whatever works best for you!

Yes that is too high for that mileage. They are great, I had a 98 and sold it at 225k running great.

If it had a ton of maintenance records, and in overall good shape, I might go about 4k-5k, but that is high end.

Of course, have it thoroughly checked out by a mechanic.
