I have a 2001 Volvo S60 that I bought 4 years ago at a used car lot. Recently it started blowing out heavy white smoke (it almost looked like it was on fire). I took it to the dealership where I bought it and they told me it was probably the turbo and I should just buy a new car at this point.
I just want to make sure it was actually the turbo and they weren't lying to me to try and get me to buy a new car since they are a dealership. Also how much would it cost to repair or would it be easy to repair myself?
Thanks Scotty!
Doing it yourself will still cost at least a couple hundreds if not 1,000$. If you have the patience and tools you can surely do it yourself. But is it worth spending all that $$. That is the real question. Unless you are someone that values self satisfaction over money value.
It might not be that bad. It could be something simple. Never trust word of mouth from a dealer. Take it to a good backyard mechanic and see what he says. Volvos can be good cars.
