A friend of mine is thinking about selling their 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500. It's the standard cab with the 4.3L V6 and about 131,000 miles currently and I'm in need of a pickup truck sometime soon. They are thinking about selling it for about $1300. Would this be a good deal? Any reliability issues or preventative maintenance things I should look for?
1300 is nothing for a car, I don’t know the average price out there but it sounds like a good price of it goes well and works fine.
check the transmission and the rear differential as they might go first and then check the engine and the rest of the truck.
if you need it as a working truck for some time and then selling it probably but an F-150 might be better but for the price i might be a good deal
I fix those all the time and I have customers that use them in winter with big shovels in the front to plow snow and they can take a beating for sure. The things I fix the most are all front end suspension components.
I'm not sure exactly what the style or condition of the vehicle is but KBB with the cheapest style and lowest condition rating gives it an average of $3500 for the private party value. $1300 sounds like a fantastic deal to me as long you are aware everything is solid on it. Scott (talking about a 2003 silverado) has said that the silverado's 17 years ago (again talking about a 2003) were better made than they are today. He also says he's had customers with some that are that old and a little bit older and they are still running pretty good and they are pretty solid made.
I don’t know about reliability or the price, but my uncle used to have one and loved it!
$1300 is a giveaway.
