Hello!
First off, thanks for anyone's time reading and helping on this forum; it's awesome!
Info: I have a 2002 Ford F250 5.4L V8 Gas engine with 124k miles that I just took over as my daily driver. Previously sat quite often, but never longer than a week or 2 at a time, always runs.
Question: Now that I took this over as my daily driver, what preventative maintenance can I do to keep her as my daily to 200k?
More info:
- The truck has no codes and no drivetrain issues. None of the fluids besides oil have been changed, I don't think. What fluids should I change?
- The steering is very funky and loose. The ride also sucks, will new shocks help even with the leaf springs? (Truck has snow plow package but was never a plow truck).
Thanks for your time!
Yes I would put quality off-road jacks on it if you want him to really last a long time and I would just change all the fluids the radiator the brake fluid the transmission fluid and the power steering fluid
I think that the secret to reliability of an ICE is to keep everything adjusted to spec and frequent, quality lubrication, all of it, including the zerk fittings and coolant, brake fluid, etc.
I have 2003 expedition with that same motor. 168k on it now. I bought it with 166. Changed the oil as soon as i got it. It had a missfire. But it took a few months for a code to tell me which cylinder. I was already suspicious of an aftermarket COP and the code confirmed it. I found that some plugs were newish although totally the wrong gap. Others were the original motorcrafts. Totally worn down. Im pretty sure the previous owner didn’t want to remove the fuel rails to change the plugs. I was able to change all plugs without removing the rails. But only cause I had access to half a dozen ratchet extensions. I had a no start no crank issue that turned out to be a melted relay. I have another post about that. I would get a professional to look at the steering. I don’t know about that.
So my suggestion is to check those things and watch a few hundred of Scotty’s videos 🙂 of course the manual has recommended maintenance at various mileage intervals.
