Front wheel moves when braking

2003 pontiac vibe front wheel moves forward like 1"-2" when braking, wear mark front of wheel well liner. it will move like and inch or 2 when putting the car in drive/reverse with your foot on the brake. So when your looking at it you can see the tire get closer to the front of the wheel well liner enough to where it rubbed a hole on the plastic liner. You can also feel it when you brake, its like a shift in the steering wheel. What is it? Ball joint?

You'd better stop driving that thing and give that 20-year-old front suspension a good going-over for worn out or damaged parts.

You can put your hands on the 9 and 3 o'clock positions to check your tie rods. You can also check your ball joints via 12 and 6 o'clock positions, with the car jacked up on the offending side. Sometimes, you can't get enough leverage with the tire itself, and you need to use a tire iron. In your case, it more than likely will show with just the tire. You better not drive anymore until you get it fixed, that's a disaster waiting to happen and it could happen literally any day.

Do as @chucktobias advised and have your vehicle checked out and repaired immediately not only for your safety but also for the safety of those who may be in the car with you and others on the road when the part in question completely fails and you lose control of the car resulting in property damage and personal injury that could possibly ruin your and others' lives.

Im trying to find out what it is so I can fix it. I just did struts, Powe steering pump, stabilizing bars etc in my escape. I can work on cars. I will check it tomorrow, was just wondering if anyone had this issue.

FWIW - My 4x4 escape had a clunking noise that annoyed the heck out of me., check everywhere and nobody suggested to check the pinch bolt. Heres the kicker, I has someone do the control arms so I did not suspect it until I tried tightening it and it kept spinning, the nut was stripped. Got another bold/nut and tightened it. The noise didnt totally go aways. Turns out I didnt tighten it enough, used a extension on the ratchet and its been quiet as a mouse. I was scared putting so much torque on the bolt that something was gonna beak.. Just throwing that out there incase someone is trying to track down the noise in there car/truck
