2004 Honda Accord ABS brake issue

I have a 2004 Honda Accord with an ABS light. The ODBC reader says it's a problem with the right front ABS sensor. When I measure the resistance across it is 36 ohms.  I tested the left front and that measures as open.  Seems suspicious. I left the left disconnected and used the ODBC reader to check.  It still says the right front and only the right front.  Again suspicious. I am going to replace the left front but while I am waiting for it, I want to know what more I can check.  For example, is this a passive system where the ABS control unit is looking for current from the sensor?  If so what should it be?  If not should there be voltage across the leads coming from the ABS control unit?

Any help you can offer is appreciated.

wheel speed sensors send pulses. You can check for resistance but beyond that you need a scope or ABS tool

Are your sensors magnetic or Hall effect type?

I am fairly certain they are magnetic sensors and not hall effect.   They only have two leads.

What should the resistance be in ohms?

You'd have to look that up in the car's shop manual.

For what it's worth my car has magnetic wheel sensors and the resistance is supposed to be nominally about 1100 ohms, and spinning the wheel by hand should result in an AC voltage of 0.1 to 0.5 volts. Your mileage may vary.

Debris between the sensor and trigger wheel, or damage to the trigger wheel, can also result in ABS failure.

Thanks all for your replies.

I disconnected both wheel sensors. Still reads only right front open or short.  I jumped the left front sensor to the right front wiring hardness, still reads only right front open or short.

I cleared the codes in between each step and verified they are cleared.

Anyone have ideas what to check next?

Previously posted. My 2004 Honda Accord LX with 220K miles has an ABS light. The code indicates right front sensor open or short.  I have swapped it with the left sensor, no change. I have disconnected both the left and right, no change (thought I would also see the left sensor open or short).  I have buzzed out to wires from the sensors to the ABS module. All good. I have swapped ABS modules, no change.  I've clear codes with a ODBC computer, Cleared them with a paper click across pins 4 an 9 and even disconnected the battery over night with the headlights turned on to drain the capacitors in the computer.  The ABS light is still on and reads right front sensor open or short.  I am thinking it is either a short in a wire coming from the ABS module to either the ODBC port or the computer or a problem with the car's computer.  Does anyone have the wiring diagram to share or knowledge of the relationship between the ABS module and the car computer to share?  any help is greatly appreciated.

I am thinking it is either a short in a wire coming from the ABS module to either the ODBC port

there are only data lines. If those were bad you would be seeing completely different faults come up.

ODBC is a database programming language. I think you mean OBD (On Board Diagnostics)

you should follow the advice in the video

What video MountainManJoe?

I think there's only one on this page
