  1. I have a automatic 2004 Honda civic Ex I bought it from a Honda dealership at 84k miles. It overheated about 2 months after I bought it but the dealership rebuilt the engine for free and since then I've only had a few problems when driving to California but after it would work fine. Now it's at about 130k miles.  Anyways about 5 months ago I put a Injen short ram intake on it. It ran perfectly for about 2 hours then my belt snapped so I had to tow it. I put a new belt on but then it wouldn't stay started it would like turn on then die immediately,  I had a mobile mechanic come look at it and he said it was my crankshaft sensor and that I had to buy oem. So I did and he put it on because I'm not skilled in cars that much. Nor have the tools for everything. He said I had put the Sri on correct as well. After he repaired my crankshaft sensor my car has not run the same. It idles more rough its louder (the Sri made it louder but not this loud ) and when I'd press on the acceleration it'd Rev up like it's going fast but the car wouldn't go up to speed like it used too. The mechanic said that my belt snapped cause I had a power steering like so since then I fixed the power steering with new o rings. But I'm still having acceleration problems. Sometimes I'll accelerate and I'll Rev for a long period then make like a backfire noise and smell like smoke afterwords. Thank you so much.

Acceleration problems could be a loss of fuel delivery, air delivery and ignition also exhaust I would do the simple things checking your air filter and mass airflow sensor those are easiest change the filter an clean the MAF with Mass airflow sensor cleaner and only that. But first I’d would advise you to get a obd2 scanner to check out for codes and freeze frame data because this could be a lot of issues and would help pin point problems

Double check your timing marks make sure your timing is correct. If this started happening after a timing belt I would start there, it could be a a tooth off which would cause poor engine performance. Sometimes if it’s only half a tooth off or a 1 tooth it won’t trigger a CEL but it would run like crap.
