- Working on a 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid with code P0497. Before buying an expensive purge valve, I would like to check if it's really defective by hooking it to a vacuum pump, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. On regular Civics, they're normally right next to the throttle body, but I don't see it. I can't find YouTube videos on it specifically, but searching through forums it's supposed to be buried under the intake manifold?! How complicated is it to get to the part & are there tricks & shortcuts to make it easier? Thanks.
Looking at an intake manifold assembly from eBay, there seems to be the metal plenum up top & plastic at the bottom. Can those be separated so just the plenum can be removed to gain access to the purge valve or is it impossible not to break since it's one whole piece?
🙂 To save myself a lot of problems & headache, maybe I'll just use a metal zip tie & tie it to the old valve & hook up a new rubber line to the throttle body.
If I do it the proper way, it looks like I'd have to drain the coolant, remove the intake manifold assembly, buy an intake manifold gasket set that includes upper & lower intake manifold gaskets, egr gasket (risking breaking a very rusted bolt attached to the manifold), & throttle body gasket, remove the purge valve from the intake manifold bracket by hammering it with a manual impact since it'll be practically welded like rotor screws (why use screws?!), replace it with a new purge valve, while the PCV valve is exposed as well, replace that too, after getting everything back together, & finally, fill it up with coolant again & bleed it properly.
McGyvering it up sure looks like a helluva lot better option 🙂
It's a pain because you have to remove the intake manifold plenum on the top and it's hiding under there you can't see it without taking that apart. Another brilliant design
