Hey Scotty, Im looking at buying a 2006 Jeep Liberty 3.7 4wd. Previous owner passed away and only put 45k on it. wants $10k. Is it worth it? I know your opinion about Chrysler, but was it built by FCA or before their merger? What are the common problems with this jeep? How are the transmissions, and engine?

I have a 2005 Jeep Liberty, and $10K is way too much for that. Personally, $5K is pushing the high end of a fair price.

Long answer short: Don't buy it. I wouldn't give a third of what the guy is asking just because of how junky those cars are.

Run away fast, those were endless moneypits.

It's not just his opinion of chrysler...it's the fact that they're poorly made...and those, also have tranny issues.. they rust out if you in an area they use salt like I do.. I've never seen one with more than 150k miles , running. Just not worth it, at all.. I wouldn't spend that.

Junk car.  For 10k you can get much better cars.  They were horribly made cars.

They were crap before the merger. After the merger they were bigger crap.

Those vehicles were not well built, and actually 2006 was the worst MY for that generation.  You can see some of the issues reported here:

The best thing about the Jeep Liberty is that when it gets junked, as most of them do when they accumulate some miles, the rear disc brakes will bolt right onto a Jeep Cherokee that has a Chrysler 8.5 rear axle in place of the factory drums. (The proportioning valve innards will also swap.) The rest of the Liberty can then be crushed without shedding a tear.
