Hello, I have a 2007 Honda Odyssey EX-L V6 Automatic with 260,000 miles that has an AC issue. The AC blows very cold and perfect when driving the vehicle on the road at low or high speeds, but when you put the van in park and have it sit idle, it soon starts to blow hot air. Sometimes after sitting at idle in park for some time (about 20-30 minutes) it will go back to blowing cold. What could be the cause of this issue? Thanks!
Is your condenser fan working?
Yes, I believe so, but something does seem to get loud and shake the van when at idle and the compressor cuts on, which I guess could possibly be the condenser fan causing that.
Easiest way to tell if the fan is working is by observation.
So, I was finally able to check if the fans were working and they are not. When I first turned on the car and turned the AC on, neither the condenser fan nor the radiator fan was cutting on. I even got the car to get up to working temperature and neither fan still cut on. They would only spin when I physically spinned them a little and they would both spin if either one was spinned a little. They would only continue spinning for like 30 seconds. The compressor was cutting on and off but neither the radiator fan nor condenser fan ever cut on by their own. What could be the cause of this? Thanks!
Well there's your problem. Check connections, fuses, relays, and the fans themselves.
How do you check the fans?
Connect directly to 12V battery and see if they spin. Be careful since they pull a lot of current and you don't want sparks near the battery.
Thanks!
A starter test switch would be helpful. Hook one wire from the fan to ground and use one of these to control the +12 volt line.
