Scotty,
I have a 2008 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi with 110,000 miles. I noticed that there is moisture in the top of the oil filler cap. I ran a pressure test on the radiator and it was fine. The coolant looks normal and the radiator and overflow tank were full. I did a block test where you put a blue liquid in a tube and sniff the coolant while running for combustion gas and it was negative. I replaced the PVC valve but the old one rattled just like the new one. I changed the oil and the oil was not milky. There are no codes and the truck runs fine and gets the same miles per gallon it always has. So everything seems normal and working except for the moisture.
The Dodge forums have this issue all over them and they say it is normal. There was some talk about short trips causing the problem but about a week ago I went to Houston, Texas. The trip home is 3.5 hours at 75 miles per hour. I drove home and parked the truck and came out in the morning and there was moisture in the top of the oil filler cap. So the issue is not short trips.
Is moisture in the top of the oil filler cap normal? It is concerning to me but lots of threads on the Dodge forums say it is normal.
well if it doesn't overheat you're not losing any coolant yeah I'll often do that just by the way the PCV valve system works and the cooling system and the intakes sometimes they just will get moisture up there
From what I just read you have ran every test you could for it and it’s all come out fine as you said. Motor is still running strong, oil isn’t milky or anything and coolant looks good. After all that if you’re still worried take it in to your mechanic and see what the verdict is.
