Hello guys so I was having a problem with a family member car it's a Infiniti ex35 with the 3.5L engine and was wondering if I should take on a oil pump job on the vehicle the internet not telling me anything on how to approach it any advice would be nice???

Clarification: What is the mileage and what symptoms does the vehicle have? (How do you know it’s the oil pump?)

180k and the oil light is solid and the car barely runs and it's making a rattling noise when it do start up and the oil is full and clean

If it was run for more than a few seconds with zero oil pressure and the engine is making noise the internal damage is already done.

Is it basically the same 3.5 liter engine used in the Nissan Altima? If so it looks like the pump is driven directly by the crankshaft and is removed from the front of the engine after removing the timing chain.

Uh oh so that means she needs a new engine and the repair won't be worth it??

not necessarily. I've run an engine without oil for a lot longer than that with no lasting effects.

Find a service manual to see what's involved, or maybe some videos.  It could be a big job.

Looks up some listings and estimate the value of your vehicle, and make the call.

That is not known yet, it depends on whether you really have no oil pressure and if so how long the engine was run that way. (One clue to internal damage would be if there are metal shavings in the oil or oil filter.)

Bear in mind that the oil light may be lit due to a defective oil pressure sensor. It's even possible for a bad oil filter to cause pressure problems. The poor running may be due to other causes. Further diagnosis is needed.

Did you measure the oil pressure with a gauge?

No but the car barely starts up barely runs like it's in limp mode or something and the oil light is solid in the car

It's up to you, but I would want to be sure.
