- Hi, Scotty!! Love your YouTube channels. I have a 2009 Toyota Matrix S with all-wheel drive. It has 130, 946 miles on it now. It had 128, 177 on it when I got it. It also has the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine and 4-speed automatic transmission. My question is, when I was leaving work today, I was getting to the end of the driveway, and when I hit the brakes, the oil light on the instrument panel came on. It went out right away, and during my other trips today, it hasn’t come on again. Could my engine oil level be low? Thanks!!
Yea, that's what those lights do is tell you that you lost oil pressure. If it's low enough to flash at a sudden stop you are really low on oil. CHECK IT. And it was either low when you bought it, Or is Burning Oil, Or is Leaking oil. After you get the level right your gonna wanna check it every 2-3 days and figure out if you have a problem.
Thanks..I’ll be calling my mechanic tomorrow.
Sounds good. If you do not know how you should ask him to show you how to check it, and if necessary add a quart. Can definitely be of use if you are on a long drive to be able to do it yourself.
Good advice. Thanks.
@Thumpy nailed it. I would check the oil level ASAP before driving and, if it is low, fill it to the proper level and monitor it. Taking it to the mechanic is also a good idea.
For now, make sure the oil level is up to par. I’m afraid this is part of the engine series which had excessive oil burning issue, but as @Thumpy said, have your mechanic check it for you.
My mechanic will be hearing from me.
