Hey Scotty,
Recently came across an issue relating to a grinding noise I experienced from the past week, it runs and gets the job done but I never had that problem as the first owner of this car. The grinding noise started after coming back from work the next day the battery started losing capacity, was under warranty so it got replaced, but the guys that did the battery replacement mentioned the alternator needs replacement since the battery caused the noise and suggests getting an honest mechanic. In addition, the car is due for service so that needs to be cleared. I have three options:
- Go to the dealership, get genuine parts and service from them that costs Aud$1100 for the alternator with labor Aud$160/hr
- Buy aftermarket alternator from auto store price varies between 400 to 800 aud which I found this ( https://www.repco.com.au/en/parts-service/electrical-parts-vehicle-management/alternators/oex-alternator-12v-100a-denso-style-dxa582/p/A9449808?search=shop_this_vehicle) then give it to the dealership to replace it
- Go to a family friend's shop who happens to be an honest mechanic, but my parents suspect it will be expensive to pay him for this job
Else if I don't take these options is having that grinding noise normal overtime?
Thanks
I would just take it to the dealer. You're going to want to replace the alternator with an OEM one anyway. Any type of grinding is not normal so you definitely want to get that checked out.
