Hey Scotty,
love your show, keep up the great work!
I have a 2011 Nissan Altima Base model. When I get up to 60 MPH I can’t seem to accelerate past that speed. My transmission starts going upwards of 3k to 3500k and just doesn’t seem to actually give me power. I can also feel it in the pedal. I push it down but nothing other than my engine revving up happens.
I have not checked my spark plugs or fuel filter in a while and will be doing that soon. However it accelerates perfectly normal up to that mph. The transmission also sounds and feels like it’s performing properly so I don’t believe that is my issue. I recently cleaned out my Airflow sensor and changed my air filter.
I changed my transmission cvt fluid about 15,000 miles ago and use a high end engine cleaner every once in a while, the kind you dump into the gas tank, I’ll admit I am not sure they actually work but it seems to help. Also I don’t think the fuel lines are the issue because it still operates normally under 60 mph.
The only other major issues I know of are my catalytic converter is bad. I have the replacement part on order. Could a bad catalytic converter, that’s probably clogged up and that I know has water dripping out of it, cause the engine not to accelerate properly? Also I can smell oil and have white exhaust coming out. I believe I must have a bad piston compression ring and am getting oil into the combustion chamber of the car.
Would love to hear what your opinion on the matter is and wanna thank you for taking the time to read and respond to my question! Thanks Scotty and keep up the good videos!
Thanks,
Hunter Parcel
No, those are more notorious for the CVT transmissions going out and acting like that. I would think it was that first butt. Of course the catalytic converter of clogged up can be easily tested. Any mechanic can take the oxygen sensor out screwing the pressure gauge and see. Okay, it's clogged up is too much back pressure. Very easy test
