Hey Scotty. I have a 2011 Dodge Durango v6. Dealer replaced driveshaft few months ago. Then I was driving vehicle and it started vibrating bad. I was close to another Dodge Dealer so I drove in to their parking lot. Dealer #2 found grease leaking out of the new driveshaft and all the bolt loose. Loose to the point one fell out in Dealers hand after 1/8 of a turn. This is the driveshaft that drives rear axel from transmission. The Dealer tighen the bolts to factory specs. Dealer #2 told me to take the vehicle back to vehicle #1 that installed the driveshaft. Dealer #2 question the safety of the driveshaft because it became loose and the grease leaked out. The original Dealer that installed the driveshaft did nothing. Said Driveshaft is fine because Dealer # 2 tighten bolts to factory specs. They never even addressed the grease that leaked out. I have no knowledge of newer driveshaft and if in fact there is grease inside them and if this is a safety issue. If the counter people don't want to deal with this do I call Dodge Customer service? Or State of Connecticut DMV? What are your thoughts. Work was performed under my service contract. Thank you for any information. Bob in Connecticut
I would raise hell with Dealer 1 and about Dealer 1 with your state automotive licensing board with at least a formal complaint. The drive shaft had at least 2 u joints that have greasable zerk fittings on them that must be correctly installed and lubricated.
Called Chrysler or whatever their Corporate name is now. They transferred me to another dealership who stated vehicle is unsafe to drive. Called warranty company they said driveshaft has been marked as part failure. Problem is dealer number 1 who installed driveshaft put down Dodge part number, when in fact it was an aftermarket part. Because OEM part no longer available from Dodge. This is a headache that is only going to get bigger
Yeah I would keep up the fight on that. A vehicle with an improperly installed driveshaft is, to understate things, a major safety hazard.
