Hi Scotty and the rest on the forum,

I'm looking at a couple of vehicles to use to Uber for a year or two for some extra cash. So far considering these. Any thing to be aware of ?

1) 2011 Mazda CX-7 with 99K miles. Looks clean.  Wants  $5,800 for it.

2) 2014 Subaru Impreza with 46K miles    for $3,900

3) 2011 Mazda3 i SV w/5-Speed Manual   with 77K miles for $8,350

4) 2012 Toyota Camry SE with 121K miles  Wants $12,500

Of course, I'd want to go for the cheapest to use for Uber then sell it after a year or two. Or donate it. The first 2 I'd pay cash outright. The first two I'd pay cash. Then 3 and 4 I would put $6k down and finance. I'm allowing approx 15% above what I pay for typical expenses to pay buying a used car.

Just want to make an extra money a month in addition to my now monthly income. I'm retired so additional funds is good to fund my other future endeavor. I have an older Toyota Camary, 1999 that runs good but too old to uber. And the plastic in it is getting hard and sun tortured. Expected from a 20+ year old car.

You didn't list the Subaru as having a manual transmission. The CVT is a weak point in those cars.  Might be OK for a while given the low mileage especially if you change the CVT fluid, but a manual transmission would be best. (By 2014 Subaru's head gasket problems were history.) They do have a tendency to eat front drive axles because the inner joints are near the exhaust system, but that is a relatively minor concern compared to the transmission. Also that seems like a pretty low price on the Impreza especially with the market the way it is now, maybe has a rebuilt title or other issues?

Manual Transmission

I love a manual transmission. Miss it.

And the real price is $33K for the Subaru. I think that's rather high for it. Whether its reasonable or not, I am not even considering it now because it was a come on ad. I don't deal with <expletive removed> that do that

Yeah, it sounded too good to be true and $33K is ridiculous, not merely rather high but outright highway robbery! I agree, don't do business with turkeys like that!

@jmrec100 please don’t use foul language. It’s against forum rules - https://carkiller.com/scottykilmer/qa/welcome/#post-1271

I had no intent for bad language. My apologies
