I am out of town and my wife took our Toyota Sienna van with 118k miles in for an oil change. The dealer came back with over $4500 worth of work. The work includes:
Replacing front control arms (bushings have collapsed)
Replacing both half axles due to torn boots
Rear brakes
Coolant flush
Fuel Injection Flush
Spark Plugs
AC Evaporator Cleaning (Due to mileage and odor - I have complained about the odor for years but no one ever found an issue with it)
Rear brakes and a handful of other small items.
The "urgent" thing - control arms, brakes, and axles are $3100 (after $300 of "discounts")
I am worried the dealer is trying to rip her off, but I have no way of going to see the car right now.
Any thoughts? Anyone know a reputable Toyota mechanic in the Chandler, AZ area that could double check their work?
It’s sounds grossly excessive if your van was regularly - and on time - serviced (and repaired, if and as needed) over its first 118k miles travelled, … while you were in town!
Above said, ask yourself, therefore, honestly: How was my van truly looked after for that first 118k? I mean, seriously. I have run into number of cars/trucks/vans needing far more work than you quoting at far lesser milages, … simply because their owners just drove their vehicles as if a vehicle was just stolen. All from the very first mile! Never caring for them. Ever, …
Anyway, … I’m just musing out loud.

It is a solid gold guaranty that you're getting ripped off. Guaranteed!
