Hi Scotty! I have a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan SE with 240K miles. It has the same 62TE trans as the rest. About 40K miles ago it took longer after start up, (a couple minutes) especially when cold outside, for the transmission to upshift into 6th gear. Now the vehicle has to warm up for at least 45 minutes when it's below 32 degrees out, before it will hit 6th gear. I have seen a ton of your videos and learned a lot. However, I have never seen you cover this problem. Do you have any ideas for me? A little more info. The transmission was crap from the factory when I bought it new in 2012. The dealer finally rebuilt it at 35,666 miles and other than this shifting glitch, it's been perfect since the rebuild. I do not baby this van. It has 90% highway miles on it.
Regards,
Scott 🙂
When did you last change the transmission fluid and filter? Was it right when you got it rebuilt?
Rebuilds typically don't last.
Rebuilders will change a few components, and then put the rest of the old ones back in. Rebuilding is a waste of money. Always replace with a complete, fully re-manufactured and tested unit.
There are about 20,000 miles on the latest fluid and filter change. The transmission has been trouble free since the rebuild about 200,000 miles ago. It started being picky about the outside temperature last winter, but not bad. It shifted fine after the engine warmed up for a couple minutes and would be fine the rest of the time. During warm weather I had no up shift to 6th gear at all. About a week ago, it started to be very picky about the outside temp. Anything under 32 degrees F and I had to wait around 45 minutes to be able to use 6th gear. Once it warms up to the usual operating temp of the engine, then it shifts all 6 gears fine.
Thank you 🙂
I hope someone can answer this for me. I am going to change the engine temp sensor and the oil pressure sensor. I have a remanufactured transmission solenoid pack that is going to go on if the temp sensors on the outside of the engine are found to not be the problem.
