Hi Scotty and Community,

First up, thee problemo:
I have a 2013 F150 that went into limp mode, I took it to the dealer after I had restarted it and they found no trace of codes or anything that could explain what's happening.  Both the dealer and I agree its a sensor.  It was really cold (17 F) out when it did this.  They did comment that the inside of this truck is FILTHY and I looked at some pockets in the body and whatnot, it does have a accumulation of dried mud that I have never seen in a vehicle before.  They told me go wash this bad boy down and see if it comes back.  They also told me if it comes back bring the issue to them hot (as in don't shut it off).

It the XL and its got 127,000 miles on it, its the 6 speed automatic, its got the 5.0 liter engine and selectable 4x4 high or low as well as some additional towing settings.  It has the flex fuel badge as well.

The backstory and all the other BS I have to say about it:
I was in the market for a reliable vehicle and I came across a video where Scotty was talking about the 5.0 Liter F150s that were built before the 10 speed transmission.  So I went out and found what I thought was a deal on one.  I paid 13,400 from a small dealer who only deals in used commercial vehicles, trucks vans etc...  I went south to Iowa to get it because I want to get as far from the salt they use up here as possible (South Dakota).

It's the plain jane all white work truck model and as far as I can tell it was used commercially by a blue collar work crew before I got it.  Its got some dents and cosmetic issues going on but nothing terrible.

By rust belt standards underside of this thing is CLEAN.  It runs really quiet too, its got a tiny bit of lifter noise but I expect that from a truck with this many miles.  I think I've seen enough videos on oil additives to fix that.

The Radio is out by the way (clue of electrical problems?).  I'm gonna rip that dash apart and see what I find there, I'm somewhat of an electrician so don't worry about that much.  (if the inside of the dash is caked with mud, then holy moly I will let you know)

The dealership also suggested that maybe it got really wet at one point due to the amount of nastiness they saw hidden inside it, but again its extremely clean of rust.

Sorry for the rambling, any ideas?

Definitely go through the dash that could be wiring that screwed up, especially if the radio was removed by a thief ripped shit up

I got answers,

It appears to be covered under the wiring recall inside the transmission. Its covered 10 years, 150,000 miles. So I got a warranty claim and they are gonna get some parts in for me. I think this gambles turned in my favor, someone else musta dumped it because they didn't take enough time to work with a dealer on it.

And don't even get me started on full coverage insuring an already dented truck nowadays! Jesus!

I have a bit of a update on it, since I missed the code and I hate getting to the shop on short notice, I found a Ford specific OBD2 scanner on Amazon for only $100.  I figure this is a great investment since I just picked the truck up.  I'm gonna try to catch that code myself if it goes into low power mode again.
