2013 Hyundai Genesis (3.6L v-6) - rough idle at car start

It's the Sedan version - been pretty well babied.   I know...  I know... it's just a fancy Kia.

When first started, it will start normally, but the idle will be rough.   Then, around 10 seconds later, it will rev up to around 1700 rpm for about 2 seconds

Then goes down to around 1200rpm.    After driving for 2 or 3 minutes, it will idle *smoothly* at 800-900rpm.

What is going on when the car is started, with the rough idle which smooths out?   New air filter.  Is the car testing the air for air:fuel ratio?

Any codes?

You could try cleaning the MAF sensor.

If it doesn't have one, why does AutoZone and everybody else sell them?  Duralast #DL3030 - $62.99.  It should be located in the breather tube between the air filter and the throttle body.

If there aren’t any codes, try this cheap method first & clean the throttle body -

Also, when was the last time the car had a tune up? (Spark plugs, etc)

I haven't had the spark plugs checked since I bought it, around 15k miles ago. Haven't done anything, really, except oil changes. I'm scared to death to mess with asking a mechanic to change the transmission fluid, but I think it has to be done?

No tune up. At 65k miles, let's say not a whole lot has been done by me, what are the big items to take care of? I got this from a very old dude, and it was like new. You can tell he never got on it - it was his cruiser. Now it's my cruiser and I'd at least like to make it to 100k! 🙂

All the routine maintenance items should be mentioned in your owner’s manual. Something similar to this - http://cdnedge.vinsolutions.com/DealerImages/Website_4640/Service%20Department/SuperServiceMenus/gen-coupe-2013-2014-3.8-lt-auto.pdf

Yes, I would change the transmission fluid too. https://carkiller.com/scottykilmer/qa/atf/

If you don’t plan to do all the work yourself, it might be a good time to start scouting for an honest independent mechanic in your area.

A quick google search of "hyundai genesis maf sensor location" gives this.   And I could be imagining, but these definitely apply to the situation.

3 Signs of a Bad Mass Air Flow Sensor
  1. Stalling, jerking, or hesitation during acceleration.
  2. air fuel ratio is too rich.
  3. air fuel ratio is too lean.

Would you have any idea where this thing could be in a '13 Hyundai Genesis Sedan?  Or even a place to look?     Also, I found this, while genesis coupe, says there's no MAF in the '13

I'm assuming the MAF is the big metal cuff thing?   And not the little sensor the video starts out with?   Doesn't look too difficult to take off...
