2014 Toyota Camry Air Conditioning Noise

Hi Scotty,
Greetings from New Zealand.

I have a 2014 Toyota Camry with 200,000kms on it. The AC seems to intermittently make a very slight whining noise similar to a electric motor from a RC Toy Car.

When I am at the traffic lights with my foot on the brake pedal, and I turn the AC off the noise goes away and the brake pedal sinks in by a millimeter or 2.

I find it to be puzzling issue as the car runs perfectly fine. Help!

Just on a note, this particular Camry was made in Australia and not Japan.

Thanks
Tanmay

This could be several things. Assuming that the cabin air filter is clean (a somewhat blocked air filter can produce various sounds as air goes whooshing through), various scenarios are possible:

1. Some critter (or critters, often mice) make a nest near or even sometimes in the blower motor. IF that was the case, you'd eventually smell it (mice excrement, decaying bodies, and the like);

2. Either the motor itself or the connectors have an intermittent, occasional electrical short (either from rodent activity or other environment factors, such as heat and humidity);

3. The blower motor is itself defective, or perhaps just aging (bearing issues, etc.);

4. An electrical problem that affects both the brakes and the AC. Checking fuses and power and grounds might be useful;

5. An alternator and/or battery that is (are) marginal in their ability to power the vehicle;

6. Or, again, these could be two separate problems that just happen to be concurrent.

7. Or, other things that I haven't thought of.

Question: Have you scanned for DTCs, Mode 6 data and Live Data? Particularly with Live Data, it might be of interest to see graphs at the point when these phenomena occur.

I haven't had it scanned but I might check my cabin air filter.
If it persists, I might take it to my mechanic and see what he says.
Though it's only 7 years old, it's first 5.5 years was living as a rental car so I know it has it's share of harsh treatment.
Probably best for me to start checking for mice infestation or blown fuses
