Hey scotty i was wondering if you think a 2015 lincoln mks with 88k miles is a decent used car to buy? Its got the 3.7 cyclone v6 and according the car fax (for what thats worth) its a 1 owner and been serviced at the ford dealer all its life. I didnt see any leaks or anything bad when i drove it

This has been talked about many times but I'm going to keep it short, those cars weren't designed to last long. The water pumps are behind the timing chain on those V6 engines which means $$$$ when you change it, and the transmissions are downright weak. Ford also doesn't care about its customers so they don't make stuff right which leads to a bunch of recalls. Definite pass for me.

Kerem, the OP was talking about the full-size luxury sedan the Lincoln MKS (not the midsize MKZ) which shares the same platform as the Ford Taurus; However, the problems it has and the end conclusion is still the same.

@daywalker
I realized that but I thought they were similar in reliability when it came to the mechanical bones. Plus more data for MKZ;)

Yes they are similar in reliability hence the same problems and similar end conclusion. But the OP may not realize that and be confused - that’s all.

I knew about the timing chain water pump design flaw but ive read after 2011 they updated it and its much better reliability wise . i actually had a 2014 taurus until last friday when i drunk driver hit me and totalled it. I never had an issue with the 3.5 na v6 in 176000 miles (bought it at 23k miles) or with the transmission. I was mainly wondering if there is anything specific to the lincolns that were problematic. Ive never owned the 3.7 so i was also wondering if they had any issues other than the internal water pump design. Also i appreciate the fast responses!

@Braden427 the 3.7 has same design as the 3.5 with the water pump driven by timing chain, and issue affects up to the present. See Scotty’s video below:

Look at 13:10, applicable to the 3.5 and 3.7 V6 engines

Also look at 15:47 above, this is a prime example that Ford doesn't care about its customers. They do whatever they can to have LONG TERM problems after 80 90k miles so you can buy a new car.
