I recently bought a 2015 Toyota Avalon XLE Touring with the 2GR-FE V6 engine. I bought it with 43K miles for about $17k before taxes and it drives like a dream. The engine is incredibly smooth and has such great acceleration. I am 21 years old and I usually drive in normal and eco mode and I do notice myself indulging in the acceleration when I can but I usually stay under the speed limit. However, I am getting 17 mpg combined and I was wondering if I could do anything to increase my fuel efficiency. Would love to come to Rhode Island and meet you and have you check out the car some time. Thank you for your help!
Start with cleaning the MAF sensor, throttle body and change the air filter. Make sure you have enough air in the tires as well. What's the mpg you get on highway?
Thank you for your response! Yes I have already cleaned the MAF sensor and the air filter is new. I have low profile tires on 18 inch rims. I get around 21-23 highway mpg
Your highway mpg is a bit low. What speed did you go on highway?
Is your exhaust/tailpipe black with soot?
The best way to improve gas mileage is by changing your driving style to extremely sedate. If you frequently indulge in the acceleration, that’s what’s killing your fuel economy.
Try driving with a light foot for 1 tankful, then recheck your mpg.
