Should I switch to a heavier oil?

I have a 2016 Cadillac Escalade Esv platinum with afm or dod engine that was rebuilt about 3000 miles ago. Saw the new Gm recall on certain motors but some will be recommended to switch from 0-20 to 0-40. Should I switch from factory 0-20 and go to 0-40 or 5-30. Will that hurt my engine at all by doing so.
Engine was rebuilt without any delete kits. Same way Gm built it.

Did you get a letter from GM telling YOU to change your oil viscosity?

Recalls always state which vehicle year and models they apply to.

As far as I know, your vehicle isn't part of the recall, so not sure why you would follow these recommendations.

@imperator what can I do to help make my engine last. It got rebuilt by the mechanic after the lifter failed. I want my engine to last as long as possible. It’s has afm aka dod

should have had it removed but too late now. change the oil religiously and live with it. Sell it while it still runs and buy a Toyota.

Scrupulous maintenance will yield the best result. However since cylinder deactivation is still in effect your engine will experience thermal stresses that result in shortened engine life. You did not state mileage but the fact that the engine suffered a serious failure in less than 10 years speaks volumes.

I would like to change my oil at 50% interval.

that's fairly extreme. You'll be spending a lot of money on oil for a car that's going to the crusher soon. Frequent intervals may help a bit, but will not eliminate the problem of collapsed lifters. I think 4k mile intervals are more than enough.

some people have went to 5w30 for weight

I think this will make the problem worse. 5w winter weight oil is thicker at a critical time when the engine is cold and the oil has drained out. Thicker oil moves slower, and this will lead to accelerated wear.

You obviously didn’t read the whole question.

it's all related to the same topic of concern, so please keep all the information together in one place.

Engine was rebuilt

By who? Follow the engine builders recommendation.

2016 Cadillac Escalade Esv Platinum 175k. Motor was rebuilt at about 171-172k miles. Has cylinder deactivation or dod. Just wanted to know what’s the best oil I can put in it to help make engine last. And also I would like to change my oil at 50% interval. I hear some people have went to 5w30 for weight and are experiencing better engine protection. Thoughts guys. Thanks in advance

You obviously didn’t read the whole question. Scotty actually answered my question because he read the whole thing. Thanks anyway

I did read the whole question and it was the same basic issue as your previous topic - using an alternative oil. I was simply making you aware that posting multiple topics about the same thing is against forum rules and if done multiple times it can lead to being banned. For future reference if you have additional information to add that should be done as a response to the original topic.

@chucktobias
Thank you for making me aware as I am new to the platform. Thank you for all the good work that you are doing. But now I was also asking which oil brand is good out there to use and should I change oil at 50% intervals etc.

Might have worked out OK to ask about oil brands and change intervals as a completely separate topic without reverting to the oil weight question. The prohibition against posting the same thing multiple times is not an arbitrary rule, it is so people here don't have to go chasing the answers all over the board.

It appears that in his answer Scotty did not say anything about oil brand or oil change interval. A site search will find that this has been asked and answered here many times and is also covered in the site FAQ.

The short answer is that any leading brand of oil meeting your engine's requirements as specified by the manufacturer is fine, and oil+filter should be changed at no more than 5000 mile intervals or one year, whichever comes first.

Yes you can try that oil. I've had people do it at help. Some. Still I would have never bought that GM product. They aren't very well made
