2021 Nissan Versa manual opinions

Hi Scotty,

I recently took advantage of selling my paid off 2018 Frontier Pro-4X back to the dealership I bought it from new for $2,000 more than i paid for the truck new, three years ago.  Couldn't turn down that offer.

I bought a 2021 Nissan Versa S 1.6 liter they had on the lot with a 5 speed manual transmission instead of the dreaded Jatco CVT.  So far, I'm impressed with the car for the price paid, both initial quality and fuel mileage (41 mpg average).  Decent commuter car so far.  How well do you think it will hold up?  Is the Versa a decent car without the CVT and is there anything I should keep in mind to make it last?

Thank you,

The Nissan quality is not there anymore. The good thing is that you bought a manual one, so at least you don't have to worry about that.

Well despite Nissan quality control being questionable for quite some time, I have been noticing that their build quality is slowly improving. I noticed that the lastest gen Nissan products like the Rogue, Sentra, Pathfinder, Versa are so much improved with smoother engines, transmissions (pathfinder got rid of the CVT for a 9-speed auto), and better interior quality under the new leadership of Makoto Uchida (not the Ghosn leadership where he prioritized volume, sales, market share by making the cars cheaper and forcing dealerships to rely on massive incentives which made them little to no profit). If you were talking like 2018 Versa, Sentra, Rogue, Pathfinder or anything like that, I would be like no they were piles of junk and for some reason felt lower quality inside than their predecessors, which was bizarre. However, the newer ones seem more improved. That said, you did make the right move to buy manual over CVT since while I haven't heard any issues so far on the latest gen Nissan CVTs, they still haven't been out long enough to know if they are much better or not vs the older gen xtronic CVTs along with the latest redesigned Nissan models, but so far I have heard nothing majorly wrong with them at the moment.
