2022 Tundra or TRX

I've been in the market for a new truck for a couple months. Can't decide between the new Tundra or TRX. I've test driven both but love the Tundra a little more. I'm concerned about the wastegate issue with Toyota and availability with the TRX.

I'm looking at doing a factory order with one of my local dealers so it'll be a few months before the truck is here. Any recommendations? Which is better? TRX or Tundra? Not off road capability but overall mechanical performance and cost of maintenance.

Neither for a long term. Get the previous generation Tundra with the V8 if you want to keep your truck for a long time.

But if you have to choose between those, get the Tundra.

Interesting cross-shop.  The Tundra is a new model and is having some minor teething issues.  But undoubtedly the Toyota will have better long term reliability, as the Cajun Chef, would say, "I Gare-onn-tee!"  A lot of it has to do with the little things; any Stellantis product is going to have lots of electrical gremlins and suspension squeaks, and stuff like that that they Tundra won't.  And even though the base 6.2 hemi is OK (sorta), by the time you add the blower you are dealing with added complexity and strain.

This is just my opinion and please do not take it personally:  The Tundra is intended as a dependable daily-driver for someone who wants to use it as their primary transportation for many years.  The TRX is intended as the customer's second, "fun" vehicle, and is not expected to rack up a lot of miles (considering the gas mileage and oversized specs, it would not be a good daily).  So I guess it really depends on what kind of buyer you are.

Between the two the Tundra but if you can wait for a while to see if Toyota comes up with a good fix for the wastegate issue that would be best.

I mean what’s the truck for? Off road? Little bit of towing? Or just a straight pavement princess? If you’re wanting a truck with low maintenance costs and plan on taking it into the 200k mi + mark I would pass on both. If your plan is short term (100k mi) and you just want a pavement princess I would man up and get the freakin V8. You want to tow some toys around sometimes and make some runs to Home Depot? Obviously take the Tundra. Anymore any truck is a crapshoot for reliability, it’s the risk you take.
