I bought a 1997 celica st with 47k miles beginning of the year and I already put 10k miles on the car.  Roughly when should I change the timing belt to keep the engine running good?(: car is at 57k miles

Timing belt replacement is recommended every 60,000 miles on the 1997 Celica, from what I looked up.

Download/acquire manuals for your specific car and year, follow maintenance guidelines and your car will last a long time... unusually ; ) Driving style might have some influence ; )

If only more people took a keen interest in their car’s routine maintenance.

Yep!
How ya doin ITWT?

Grounded! How about you HB?

Me too! But feel much better, never was that bad for me. Merry Christmas : )

If I were in your shoes I would change it now when you have some spare time some weekend soon. People throw out alot of grey lies when they are selling a used car. "highway miles, Original engine, New Timing belt, water pump, tensioner, wheel bearings, ignition coil pack. But it is not all stuff that is easily checked when you are inspecting the car. In your case your ST engine is non-interference meaning that if it did break suddenly, you would not damage the engine with the valves hitting the pistons like you would in an interference engine. That said, driving with an old belt can still mean a ticking time bomb. If your belt snaps in on an uphill onramp or in bad weather you could be in for a bad time because your car will lose all power to the wheels. I've had it happen to me before on the highway and had to relay on my inertia to merge over 2 lanes onto the shoulder, scary stuff. {black}:scared:
