I have a Jeep Wrangler JK 2014 auto; I'm pretty sure it has a NAG1 transmission. About 90,000 miles.
It has had at least one transmission flush.
I recently heard it can be a good idea to drop the pan and replace the filter.
Would it make the transmission last longer than just doing flushes?
@jkmatt
Scotty recently made a video about why NOT to do a transmission flush. He said to just drop the pan, change the filter, and put in new fluid.
Yep, I've seen those videos, but he also says that is if the trans if old and hasn't been maintained very often.
Drain and fill, replace the filter. No need to flush it unless you want to invite headaches. I've seen others have already told you this as well, so it's your decision.
Cool, I hear you.
Why do you want to flush it? If you replace the ATF regularly, you do not need to flush it.
Because my understanding is that if you can keep the fluid consistently clean the transmission will last longer.
The whole point of flush is to remove gunks,... from a system, so if you change the fluid frequently, then you do not need it,
it should say in the manual if the filter needs to be done.
Right, I checked and it is time.
Flushing is a gamble if the fluid is dirty and you don't want any crud to clog up the tiny holes. Drain and fill is the safe method.
Yes I get that, but Scotty always seems to qualify this statement saying to avoid flushing if the trans is old and hasn't been regularly maintained.
