I'm sure someone has asked a question similar to mine, but I've been wondering this for a long time. I have a 2014 Honda Accord LX automatic transmission which does not have Apple Carplay. It only has 48k miles on it, and probably has another 200k miles in it. I'm planning on driving it until I can't anymore and I'm wondering if anyone has experience adding Carplay to an older car, specifically this make/model. It seems to require taking out the center console and replacing it with a screen module that has Carplay. Has anyone had experience doing this? I've never done anything that complicated, and I'm worried I'm going to mess up the electronics on my car.
Best Buy seems to sell Carplay modules and it says installation included. Is there actually someone who knows what they're doing like a car mechanic that will install it for you, has anyone had experience with Best Buy in this regards?
Additionally, does anyone know if the Honda dealer has an option to upgrade older vehicles to Carplay that didn't come equipped with it?
I've attached a picture of what my center console looks like. It seems I would be replacing the middle section in between the air vents and keeping the top screen.
I have been very happy with my single din Pioneer AVH 3400 NEX stereo with a flip up 7" screen that you can install in most regular size radio slots which I bought to facilitate Apple CarPlay in my SUV.
I did it myself and found that even though I had a more complex situation than most install, as I had a Bose system with optical connection to the amplifier, it was actually a breeze.
I am not familiar with your vehicle's layout but I don't believe you should not have to re-engineer the console and, for myself, at a quoted $150 and hour for installation of a radio I bought on-line I was happy to do the Research on-line and spend about 2 hours.
There are many adapters that are essentially plug and play on most vehicles and probably the hardest part is figuring out how to get the trim off without breaking it to remove the old unit.
I'm sure you can get lots of support on this and other sites to do the job.
