Yesterday, I read a forum post about a guy who TDI swapped two first-gen Tiguans here in the US. Last time I went to Europe, I saw much more diesel Tiguans than gasoline ones.
I know Scotty has a very low opinion on the gasoline powered Tiguans, but are the diesels any better? If so, would this thinking also apply to other VW products?
Scotty has a low opinion of ALL Volkswagens sold in N.America. And so do I.
Their diesel engines (which they lied about) MIGHT be a bit better. But who cares...The rest of the car is garbage!
They're definitely not worth monkeying around with the engines. Do you have thousands to spend on that, and the patience to deal with the bugs? I wouldn't.
VW TDI is way betting than TSI, but it doesn't mean it's a good car. diesel is so expensive right now. Even it's better made than TSI, there are more things need to be replaced, and it's mandatory. I know someone had something under the TDI replaced for $2k, and timing belt replacement for $1200, his mom had the engine replaced due to timing belt broken.
I drove a VW and traded in for a Camry. Camry is way better made than VW, technically you can't even compare VW to Toyota, it's different level. Camry interior is so nice, seats are very comfortable while VW is just hard. VW just have way too much fragile plastic in the car, even water pump is plastic
Hi.
Asking if a VW Diesel is better than a Gas model,is a little like asking if Herpes is better than Chlamydia. You do not really want either. 🙂
My friend has a 2005 Jetta TDI, he was driving tons of miles, and several years ago he had well over 400k miles on it.
I know his dad also had one, and it had crazy miles too.
I would rather have a corolla.
