Are Jeeps actually unreliable

Hi Scotty,

Are jeeps actually unreliable or do they just have that reputation from people incorrectly or incompletely modifying their vehicles? I'm looking for an SUV style vehicle that can still handle overlanding and I'm considering a jeep. I have a base model 2019 Tacoma 4x4 I'm considering trading in, it just doesnt feel like a truck to me and is underpowered. It feels like a cheap car on a lift kit. I like the 4runner but its getting dated and seems to be falling behind other vehicles, and has some pretty bad MPG.

Thank you in advance.

You will be severely disappointed with anything currently made by Jeep.  Your Taco is a far better choice.

Yes, actually.

Jeeps genuinely have issues, like their engines arent great, transmissions are weak, electronic glitches, they cheap out almost every opportunity they get. I went on a date with a girl once who worked in the parts department at a dodge/jeep/ram dealership, she said these cars are absolute piles of junk. Like cars that are not very old are coming in and already need expensive repairs or replacement parts.

I will say older jeeps are way better than todays junk, but new ones forget about it.

Going from a Taco to a Jeep is a massive step backwards in terms of quality of vehicle.

I'm assuming you have the 4 banger & automatic, maybe you need the V6? manual would be even better. TRD package may be more up your ally.

By Jeep, are you referring to the brand/make itself, or a specific model, the Wrangler?

Jeep used to be its own brand with a unique lineup. Today, many Jeeps are just rebadged Stellantis products. Sure there are a few Jeep models that try to live up to the brand promise, but the brand has gotten so diluted IMHO.
