Are water cooled Porches easy to work on?

This video makes it seem like modern water cooled Porches are easy to work on. Easier than a BMW for sure. But is it really that easy?

I am under the impression that they are too tight to work on, some even needing an engine out job for basic things.

Interesting video. I just can't buy into the 'easy access' claim for one simple reason. You can't r&r anything on the car without having a lift. Since nothing is serviceable from the top, you must service it from the bottom. Now once you get the Porsche up in the air, it appears the r&r access is nice.

A friend of mine has a 2017 Carrera and he has his own lift. He still doesn't work on his car though. His view is that you buy a Porsche to drive, not to work on. I'm ambivalent as to whether there's actually anything new in that video. A Porsche doesn't even have an oil dipstick, everything is computer tracked and regulated. Everything is done via sensor, computer module and ECU. Another friend has a Lambo and a Ferrari. Both friends take their cars to the same shop for maintenance or repairs, a shop that only works on high end sports cars. One noted you'd have to buy a high-end scan tool for each car.


Thanks for your thoughts on this. I am skeptical myself too. Likewise, they are right, if someone has enough money to easily afford a Porsche, they probably have enough money to get it serviced rather than DIY it.

Well, what kind of Porsche are you talking about? Roadsters, or SUVs? There are a ton of SUV Porsches around my neck of the woods. I guess people really have more money than they know what to do with. All a Porsche SUV is, is a highly glorified people mover, haha. 


Hahaha. Yeah, to be clear, when I was thinking Porsche, I meant the 911, Boxter… rear or mid-engined variety. Not the rebadged VW/Audi four door front engined Porsche cars or SUV.
