I've seen Scotty spray AT-205 on rubber seals and boots. Is it safe to spray at full-strength or should it be diluted with water? If diluting, what is the dilution ratio?
I see the value in preserving the rubber by keeping it moist, a great idea. But I don't want the rubber to swell as a result of applying full-strength AT-205 (if that's what it does?).
It won’t make it swell past what it’s original size was. Rubber can shrink as it dries out, it will only come back to original size with AT205. Once rubber gets to a point where it starts to crack its usually to late though. On side note I have seen other chemicals that makes rubber swell. Brake fluid for example can cause certain rubber formulations to swell past it’s original shape. Those cheap brake line vacuum bleeders from China only work 2-3 times because of that very issue.
You don’t have to dilute it, but it can get expensive spraying full strength. Especially when you’re doing multiple vehicles and covering CV boots and strut boots. Personally I dilute it just to make go it farther. A 50/50 mix I’ve found works just as well and helps save on my wallet a little.
There is no need to dilute.
Use it as is.
You can use it as is (that’s what I do). Or to make it go further (and save a little on your wallet) follow Thumpy’s suggestion.
